i want to go to there.

Welcome to the Barcelo Raval Hotel in the heart of Barcelona. The 5 star, entirely avant garde luxury hotel is a paradise for design enthusiasts and Barcelona travelers alike. Although I love the chaos, I wonoder if the over stimulation would make me nausous.

I'm willing to take that risk.

Jaime Hayon, Marcel Wanders, Mooi, & Vitra are just a few of the famed designers that offered a bit of their brilliance to the hotel.

A Closer Look.

Designed by J. Mayer H. Architects

Dupli Casa, a private residence by the Neckar river in Western Germany.

I love this house for so many reasons. It's both futuristic and classic at the same time.

A really intriguing example of its connection and fluidity.

From J.M.H. Site:

The geometry of the Dupli.Casa is based on the footprint of the house that previously was located on the site, originally built in 1984 and with many extensions and modifications since then. The new building echoes the „family archeology“ by duplication and rotation. Lifted up, it creates a semi-public space on ground level between two layers of discretion. The spatial configuration of the villa performs a sophisticated connection between inside and outside and offers spectacular views onto the old town of Marbach and the German national literature archive on the other side of the Neckar valley.

Spontaneity is key.

Take Away Shows

Director Vincent Moon films musicians in various everyday life settings (parks, streets, home, elevator, etc.) and captures the unexpected, live-cut, "crazy" little incidents that give these music videos charm and character. Bon Iver, Animal Collective, R.E.M., Menomena, St. Vincent, the National, Steven Malkmus, Arcade Fire... and the list goes on, my friends. My favorite one to date:

Strikes again.

I'm so obsessed with this blog, I don't even know what I should post about it. Just explore for yourself.

The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of.

Well, last night something really terrible happened to me.

No, it wasn't the fever that woke me up 3 times in cold sweats and shakes, nor was it the drunk 5th year college student that conveniently stood outside my door talking (screaming, rather) on his cellphone at 2am. No, this was much worse.

I had a dream that I was in a luxury shoe store with my friends in Nyc. But this wasn't just any luxury shoe store! This was a DISCOUNT luxury shoe store. I purchased an exquisite pair of Christian Louboutins for $120 (actually, the nice sales clerk lady told me I got an extra 30% off that day, too). They were bright red with a HUGE satin black bow on the back. And if my dream-memory serves me correctly, the heels were at least 5 inches.

I decided to see how realistic this dream could possibly be, and attempted to find this pair of $120 CL shoes. Here is what I found.

(Needless to say, by the end of my search I was in tears)

Short Tina Fringe Pumps, $1,095.00
Dillion Flower Pumps $1,695
Turbella, $925.00
Carnaval, $1,665.00 (my fav)
JS Shoe Booty $1,065.00
Alti Booty, $1,125.00

Gino T-Strap, $895.00

No bright red satin pump with huge black bow found.

General consensus: It was just a dream.

Camper Shoes by Hayon

“I wanted to find a form that stylized the foot, like the tap dancing shoes. I have always liked the character of dance shoes because they remind me of a music-hall. I wanted to make a simple shoe but one that had character, in solid colours but that were special enough to give identity to a way of dressing. If for me, and also for many others, glasses are important in creating the personality of a person, I think that shoes should be so too”. - Hayon defining his design

There's something about Peaches.

Peaches Geldorf. Crazy, British, and oh so charming.

As long as I'm already on this The Selby kick, below are images of Peaches, Bunny and Lily (her super hip, Brooklyn buddies (BB), I presume) in their Brooklyn habitat. Enjoy :P

I love me some Kanye.

Alexander McQueen's Creepy Dolls (For Target).

Acclaimed designer Alexander McQueen will soon be launching a price-friendly, rock-edge collection for the "King of Designer Sellout", Target! (Hey, I'm not complaining).

For the official launch, the legendary Blythe Doll strikes a pose in McQueen’s "rock 'n roll" Target collection.

The highly anticipated collection hits the stores on March 4, 2009.

Paris, je t'aime.

Warning: this entire post is a creepy display of my obsession with Sarah Colette. Read at your own risk.

For those of you who don't know, the site The Selby features photographs, paintings and videos by todd selby of interesting people and their creative spaces. To my wonderful surprise, Sarah Colette is his most recent addition.

Read about one of Miss Colette's most popular sites here!

A few of the many pics from The Selby:

Miss Colette has several other fascinating blogs that deserve some exploring:

Cocktail-Art... Count me in.

Ever feel totally out of place at a "hip" art gallery, pretending that you see the beauty in a huge blank white sheet of paper? This art exhibit is for you.

I know, I know. I'm really late to the game on this one. Hannes Broecker's "Drink Away the Art" took place a year ago... but I just discovered this ironic, brilliant take on art and its unusual interactive quirkiness.

Broeker cut out the need for an open bar, providing cocktails in the flat, glass containers. Is there a better way to enjoy art than to literally "take it all in"?

I think not.

Makes me happy when skies are gray.

Steven Wilson Portfolio Lookbook

Click above link to view amazing images from the portfolio of the sought-after illustrator Steven Wilson.

(From Coolhunter.com:)
Steven is inspired by circus imagery, tribal art and 70s rock posters among other things, and he can often be found sifting through flea market stalls looking for obscure books to use as reference. All of this ensures that his work stands out. There is no question that his pieces define and represent a new wave of illustrated art. He has a particular passion for working on albums covers.

Roses are red

cameras are... pink!

I think if a camera could appropriately capture my identity, this one would do the trick.

This fabulous online exclusive, Mr. Pink Diana+ delivers ultra-dreamy and mysterious medium format photographs, and the hot-pink color just drives me wild.

Somewhere over the rainbow.

Brian Atwood, Spring/summer collection 2009 Rainbow court shoes in leather.

The ex-model, then shoes designer of Versace, began his own brand in 2001 and became the idol of sexy-chic style.

There's just something about loud, shiny, colorful things that I cannot, for the life of me, resist. I find fabulousness in the tackiness of it all...

Paris Magnifique.

Although I am a self-proclaimed proud addict and gold-card status member at Starbucks, I rarely look at the nicely displayed CDs on the barista's register counter. If I do, I usually recognize a few of my favorite artists, throw it back with disgust out how they "sold out" to the corporate world. However, this CD caught my eye, convinced me to pay $12.50, and has stolen my attention for the past 8 hours.

It's french, it's whimsical, it's fabulous! Check it out: Paris Magnifique.

(from the Starbucks music site:)
Inspired by French cafuculture, this collection reflects a state of mind-where friends drink coffee, eat, discuss the issues of the day, love and liveall to a soundtrack of stirring music.

Jimmy, meet Hunter.

Kiss of death.

February is here. We ALL know what that means. I'm making a plan, though, to add some meaning and depth to this god-forsaken "holiday". I'll begin by listening gleefully to Nouvelle Vague.

Nouvelle Vague = true <3
