i like this.

The longer I live the more beautiful life becomes. If you foolishly ignore beauty, you will soon find yourself without it. Your life will be impoverished. But if you invest in beauty, it will remain with you all the days of your life.

Cord Chair by Jacques Guillon re-issued

The Cord Chair was originally designed by Canadian designer Jacques Guillon in 1953 and has been out of production for 40 years. Now Avenue Road, a Toronto based manufacturer, has announced that in August, they will be re-issuing the chair.

The chair is composed of a solid maple wood frame and finished (either walnut wood veneer or black lacquer). The seat and back are fully strung in either white or black 8-strand braided cord.

Available at Avenue Road.

Dior F/W 2009 Couture Collection

The Fall/Winter 2009 Christian Dior by John Galliano couture show was the first major couture show of the season. Similar to past couture collections, Galliano adds a twist to Dior's iconic New Look, turning pant-less designs into complete looks with garters and lace.

Many of the looks seemed repetitive of past Dior couture, ready-to-wear, and even resort shows, especially given the color palette.

None the less - the stunning floral embroidery and intricate shaping, combined with Galliano's unique flair of theatricality was nothing short of spectacular.

stop and smell the roses.

Dutch designers Ilona Huvenaars and Willem Derks have co-designed these beautiful Knitted Vases. From their site:

The Knitted Vase will adapt to the single beautiful rose or a bunch of wildowers instead of the other way around. The flowers determine the shape and the flexible neck will seamlessly wrap itself around them. Just like the snug fit of a finely knitted sweater.

Bluepoint Residences, Thailand.

Serving as the sales pavilion for the Bluepoint Residences in Phuket, Thailand, this project provides an ideal lounge setting for potential clients to enjoy spectacular views while reviewing development plans and observing construction progress. The pavilion’s expression responds to the powerful contextual site conditions. A deep terrace and continuous wrapping wood canopy extend outward toward a look-out point, framing a spectacular panoramic vista.

The form is inspired by the region’s first known inhabitants: nomadic fisherman who worked and lived on their boats. Today, Thai fishermen continue to construct simple vessels by curving lengths of timber over a gunnel framework. Their beautiful flowing forms exist as an iconic regional aesthetic. Using an innovative wood product combined with the traditional geometric techniques of ship building, the pavilion generates a unique dynamic configuration.

Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) recently gave this design honorable mention for Innovation in Architecture.
